Anna Hawkins

Born and raised in England, Anna Hawkins has loved art and drawing since early childhood. She emigrated to New Zealand in 2001 with my husband and three children to farm in South Canterbury.

She is a member of the South Canterbury Art Society and the Ashburton Society of Arts and completed a Diploma in level 5 a few years ago. She has attended various courses taken by established artists who inspire her. She paints in oils, acrylics and charcoal but predominantly watercolours as she loves the unpredictability of this medium. Captivated by light and colour, she describes her style as a mixture of realism, impressionism and expressionism. It can be challenging and rewarding.

You can find examples of my work in the UK, Australia, Spain, South Africa, and here in New Zealand. She was the Trust Aoraki Art Supreme award recipient in 2010 and the South Canterbury Arts Society Watercolour Award in 2016.

She aims to capture light and atmosphere in her work and, when doing a portrait, to capture the essence of the person or pet.
