Anne Murray's inspiration to learn to paint was instilled in her by her father, who, like her, spent many years living on Lake Tekapo's shores and pursued landscape painting as a hobby.
When she finished teaching her three children by correspondence, she found more time to do a series of watercolour courses with Austen Deans, Adrienne Pavelka, Ben Woolcombe, and others. Over the years, their watercolour paintings have remained an inspiration for her.
She finds the mountain landscapes best captured by watercolours with their clarity and happy accidents and continues to have great pleasure in trying to master this challenging medium. Her complete absorption whilst painting provides a happy distraction from life's trivia, so she continues to enjoy this challenging hobby while becoming increasingly critical of her attempts!
